I wasn't planning on starting Roberto Bolaño's 2666 until next year--it's long and I've got bookmarks in enough books already--but, as I usually do, I dipped into it to get a taste of what I'd be in for. This might be the best "mistake" I've made this year--when I came up for air, fifty pages had passed and I was irritated at whomever had the nerve to call me. I'll put it to you like this: believe the hype.
