Oh dear, Michael Chabon. Add him to the list of authors I've got to find some enthusiasm for. I liked the movie "Wonder Boys" but confess I can't get past p. 10 of any of his novels. Just looking at "The Yiddish Policeman's Union" makes me sleepy. Then again, the main girly thing I've got going is my complete lack of understanding of the fascination with superheroes, so maybe I should hold onto that.

I used to think Chabon was a snooze as well, but he just grew on me. Don't ask me why. The same thing happened with Jonathan Franzen. I read "The Corrections" and absolutely hated it, but now, several years later, my appreciation for that book has increased tenfold. I still can't bring myself to read that book again, because my memories of it always involve blind rage and a few wall dents when I hurled the book across the room.
I can't explain the superhero fascination, though. All boys--well, most--read comics at one point and tie towels around their necks and run around in their skivvies. I know I did when I was a kid. But hey, I never understood why girls always wanted to play house and sip from empty pink teacups.
